MIRTHO THE CLOWN AND THE TRAPEZIST'S FALL TO DEATH is an 8x6 limited edition, signed print. Continuing to go through my pile of collected stuff, I created this print around a comic book called Mirtho the Clown which was part of the 1930s Goudey Gum Co.’s Thrilling Stories series of booklets. They were put in Goudey’s Big Thrill Chewing and Bubble Gum packs.
The penny bubble gum booklets were usually 8 pages long and 2-7/8 x 2-3/8-in in size. 3 of the pages were in color and 5 in black and white. Included in the series was FLASH BROWN, OPERATOR 7, RECKLESS STEEL, BUCK JONES (“Avenging the Secret Service”) and my villain MIRTHO THE CLOWN. I added images from found photos including the naked trapeze artiste found on a cabinet card. His trapeze rope, however, was not frayed.
