REAL AND FAKE: GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Created from a patriotic graphic on a found envelope. It was glued on newly set type (font is BUBBLEGUM BOLD.) The central image was then glued on a manipulated copy of a found patriotic postcard (circa 1920.) The work was completed by mounting it on two different sets of distorted clouds (stolen from the recent spectacular photographs of Provincetown skies by Pete Hocking.) 8x6 on card stock.
The original envelope (called a cachet in philately) was postmarked October 1942 and stamped NAVY. In the original envelope graphic, under the words ENVY OF ALL NATIONS, was a pitch for War Bonds. Is Nationalistic Envy the same as Penis Envy, he wondered aloud. God bless America indeed!
