BEES IMAGINARY AND OTHERWISE
We are constantly fighting imaginary bees, are we not? Even when bees are few, and revery alone would do. Perhaps we are stung current events. Or paranoia. Whatever. This piece is adapted from a late 1880's book page which I copied, enlarged, colored and added red B's. I then mounted it on a copy of period wallpaper, applying dabs of paint pen and markers here and there. The original paper was designed by Candace Wheeler (1827-1923) in 1881. She was known as the “Mother of American Interior Design,” and the bee wallpaper won her $1000 in a competition for artistic American wallpaper. And that's the buzz.
